PVC and polyurethane are both thermoplastic materials perfect for hose manufacturing. Depending on factors such as temperature, chemical compatibility and flexibility needed, one material may perform better than the other for a particular application.

Polyurethane combines the best properties of both plastic and rubber. It guarantees abrasion and tear resistance (from 2,5 to 5 times higher than a rubber product and 3-4 times higher than a plasticized PVC one), high tensile and elongation values. By nature, polyurethane has a good resistance to chemicals, UV (the PU yellowing on the outer surface is a phenomenon) and an outstanding resistance to ozone.
It has exceptional resistance to most gasolines, oils, kerosene, and other petroleum-based chemicals, ideal choice for fuel lines. It shows higher resistance to pressure and vacuum applications than corresponding PVC or rubber products and also higher cut resistance than most other thermoplastics.
Polyurethane hose can last four to five times longer than vinyl hoses used in the same application.
Polyurethane hoses are superior to PVC as for a substantial throughput of solid materials, gravel, sand, wood dust, wood chip and sawdust removal.
PU ET AND PU EST
There are two main categories of polyurethane: polyester-based and polyether-based PUs. Polyester urethane and polyether urethane are elastomers, meaning they possess elastic properties.
Polyester-based PU has strong cut and tear resistance, together with excellent oil and heat resistance.
Polyether-based materials ensure better performances at low temperatures, exhibiting far superior hydrolytic resistance, especially in humid environments, resisting fungus and microbes growth.
The higher flexibility of polyether-based PUs explain the higher cost, compared to the polyester-based ones.
